BetterSight Lifestyle Vision Correction was created by our medical director and CEO Mr. Rehman. Bettersight Ltd is the commercial enterprise through which Mr. Rehman provides his expertise and surgical services. We do not own or operate facilities, rather we collaborate with carefully chosen partners who provide the advanced facilities which are required for Mr. Rehman to provide his treatments. Bettersight most closely collaborates with Optegra Eye Hospitals and has access to facilities in Leeds (the Optegra Laser Centre), Bradford (Optegra Yorkshire Eye Hospital) and Manchester (Optegra Eye Hospital Manchester). Mr Rehman decided to devote his professional life to Ophthalmology in 1994. His first mentors noticed his natural ability to meet the demands of Ophthalmic surgery and Shafiq sailed through higher surgical training gaining his CCST and was invited to take up a substantive NHS consultant post at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust in 2002.
Over the next ten years, Shafiq proved himself to be a great pioneer of breakthrough treatments, he has distinguished himself on numerous occasions by spearheading major ophthalmic developments and as such has successfully notched up several noteworthy ‘firsts’ in the Yorkshire region and beyond.
Never one to rest on former achievements, he continues to devote much time and energy towards further innovation with particular emphasis on helping to encourage the adoption of new ideas wherever they have been clearly proven to help improve the lives of his patients. He works tirelessly to identify innovative new developments in macular degeneration, cataract surgery and vision correction technology, bringing major advancements in eye care from around the world. Most recently helping to bring the exciting new SMILE laser vision correction surgery to Optegra Manchester.
In 2016 Shafiq took the decision to withdraw from the NHS having become increasingly despondent at the diminishing resources and slow pace of advancement in many areas of Ophthalmology in the NHS. This was a major decision for him as the fundamental principles of the NHS will always remain close to his heart. Since leaving the NHS Shafiq has been able to give his full focus into his independent practice making great progress in further developing several areas of his practice focusing on Cataract treatments and Vision correction surgery. His incredible drive and commitment to helping to develop the very best service possible with current state of the art technology has been recognised by Optegra UK who appointed him as Lead clinician for their UK Cataract & Refractive Surgery services across the seven Optegra hospitals in the UK.
Shafiq held the clinical director role in the vision correction service for Optegra from 2017 to 2020,
In recognition of his unique contributions to the clinical service developments at Optegra Eye Hospitals, he is now an Ambassador Consultant to Optegra and is sole vision correction surgeon for Optegra Leeds, Yorkshire and Manchester.
